After 20 years, Mayor Thomas Menino will step down at the end of his current term. This leadership transition provides challenges and opportunities for our profession and our communities. This forum invites all mayoral candidates to explore a variety of topics related to community, development, jobs, sustainability, and livability in our city. Renee Loth, ArchitectureBoston editor and Globe columnist, will moderate the discussion.

AIA Massachusetts hosts its biannual Freshman Legislators Breakfast on Wednesday, January 23, at 10:00 am at the State House (Grand Stair). Join us for breakfast and a reception to engage the freshman class in conversation regarding the importance of our profession.

The BSA and the Massachusetts Gaming Commission will co-host a public forum on design considerations for casino facilities in Massachusetts, with the goal of promoting sustainability and design excellence in harmony with local communities. The forum is presented in collaboration with AIA Massachusetts and the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts.

Through innovative new policies, the City of Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts are pushing the built environment to become increasingly energy efficient. Building energy asset ratings, distributed generation reform, renewable portfolio standards and building-energy-use reporting and disclosure ordinances are just a few of the initiatives being considered or adopted.

Join Governor Patrick’s Creative Economy Industry Director, Helena Fruscio, at BSA Space on Thursday, August 16 at 8:30 am to explore ways to build the state’s economy through design. Fruscio is meeting with industry leaders in an open roundtable and would like your thoughts on developing a strategy for the enhancement, encouragement and growth of the creative economy in Massachusetts. The Access and Design for Aging Committees meet July 25 at noon at BSA Space (290 Congress Street, Boston) to review the final design for their ABX installation, a 700 sq. ft. interactive exhibit which attendees will navigate with a wheelchair, scooter, crutches or blindfolded. Part of the layout will be universally designed and easy to use, while the other part will have common design errors making use difficult or even impossible.
