There are approximately 300 women principals in Boston-area architecture firms and all those interested gather quarterly for camaraderie and to explore topics ranging from firm leadership, mentoring, design and issues of the advancement of women to leadership roles in the profession.
In September 2009, the Boston Women Principals Network organized a national AIA Women's Leadership Summit in Chicago attended by 150 women from all over the country. Past AIA president Kate Schwennsen FAIA provided the keynote address, and panel discussions and breakout sessions were tailored to the concerns affecting women in the profession today. Locally, our group hosted sessions in 2009 to discuss staffing during challenging times, firm leadership structure, how to achieve diversity and design inspiration. We also hosted a jump-start event to the BSA Women In Design Network mentoring program.
Meetings are typically on Friday mornings and are hosted by a different firm each quarter.
