Evan will show how he built a 3D model of his home along with proposals for a rooftop solar panel array for use with DataCAD 14's new SunShader NX to help visualize sun path, percentage of shaded time, and feasibility for installation.
* LESSON 2: Solar Panel Case Study
by Dan Mullaney, 1st Light Energy <www.1stlightenergy.com>
Using Evan Shu's house as a real-life case study, Dan will show the various scenarios for solar panel arrays and financing, and how it is projected to pay for itself in 1-2 years, while providing over 1/2 the electrical energy needed for the home at a guaranteed fixed rate (and at certain times running the meter backwards!). He will present what factors go into a good situation for installing solar panels for residential and commercial uses, and why now is a great time to consider solar panels for your own home or architectural project.
* LESSON 3: Using Hypermiling to Get More Miles Per Gallon
by Neil Blanchard
We will watch the recent Chronicle "OMG MPG" program that featured Neil and his CarBEN vehicle and Hypermiling techniques to get as high as 50 miles per gallon. He will provide a running commentary how what the program did and did not show and provide you with various tips and tricks to increase your own car mileage efficiency.
