Homeowners – resources for homeowners researching architects and residential design projects and information for all individuals interested in how architecture and design influence our built environment. 

The Boston Society of Architects has referral listings, helpful guides and resources to inform and enhance your residential design and construction project.  The BSA is also a clearinghouse of information on community design and development and urban design and planning issues – learn how good design and smart growth initiatives led by architects are enhancing our built environment.

Residential Design and Construction 2008
Homeowners are invited to attend Residential Design and Construction 2008 on April 2-3 at the Seaport World Trade Center Boston. Residential Design and Construction 2008 is a two-day tradeshow and convention featuring over 250 exhibits and special events focusing on New England's residential design and construction industry. Homeowner's Project Handbook 2007 Edition
Homeowner's Project Handbook 2007 Edition is a free resource for home and small-business owners considering renovation, addition or new construction projects. It describes the architect's role, as well as:

  • the design and construction process
  • development of budget and schedules
  • the value an architect brings to the project

Homeowner's Project Handbook also includes an up-to-date directory of hundreds of architects who do residential and small commercial work. Energy Efficient Rehab Advisor (a Web-based tool designed to help homeowners, contractors, architects, facility managers and others to improve energy efficiency in existing homes during renovation and remodeling): www.rehabadvisor.com

In six clicks the Advisor provides recommendations for cost-effectively increasing the energy efficiency of a typical renovation project in single-family or multifamily housing.  These recommendations are based on the building type, age, location and project – and they are free. The Advisor suggests specific actions to get the most value from a typical remodeling project.
