Boston is a complex and multifaceted city. It not only houses many of the country’s most precious historical sites but is also the home to cutting-edge developments in architecture, public art and cultural-/community-building efforts. The BSA has co-sponsored an app by cultureNOW, a leading force in the process of digitizing the past and present landscape of our cities, empowering the individual and providing a new way to understand the urban environment.
More than 180 new podcasts have been recorded this summer by Boston architects, artists, historians, and civic and cultural leaders, including Stefanie Greenfield AIA, Yugon Kim, Vivien Li, Alex Krieger FAIA, David Fixler FAIA, Emily Curran, Andrea Leers FAIA and many others. Each podcast is tagged to a place so you may either listen on your computer or experience it in the city. The iPhone and Android smartphones will find you.
Six hundred sites in the city have been added, showcasing recent and historic buildings; public art collections of Boston, Cambridge and MIT; and public parks and historical districts. New self-guided tours include Art & Architecture along the Freedom Trail and Boston’s Innovative Architecture.
