Picture a large-scale model of a fictional city grid. Add thousands of children and their families, choosing sites and building structures within zoning limitations spelled out by their building permit. After a building review, the children-architects are issued a certificate of occupancy by a building inspector. It's architecture, it's construction, it's design. It's children learning and having fun, with architects as their guides.
KidsBuild! was first held in June 1992 in conjunction with the 1992 National AIA Convention at the Museum of Science, Boston. Since then the event has since become a BSA YouthVisions Committee program and has been held over a half dozen times, first at the Musuem of Science and now it is a PlayDate at the Institute of Contemporary Art. We are committed to teaching children about architecture and urban design in a hands-on, interactive way.
KidsBuild! 2013 will be Saturday, April 6. To learn more on how you can participate, volunteer or donate supplies for the next event, contact Robin Greenberg at KidsBuild@yahoo.com.
