Curating at BSA Space
Architecture is for everyone
There are three galleries at BSA Space. We use them to delight, engage, challenge, and inspire the kids, families, community members, art lovers, urban adventurers, and design professionals who visit.
Main gallery
Frequency of exhibitions: One per year (currently on pause)
Programmable Space: 6,000 square feet

Exhibitions in the main gallery are typically curated by independent designers or exhibition teams, and are programmed two to three years in advance. For a full list of current, upcoming, and past exhibitions, visit our exhibitions page.
The main gallery at BSA Space presents creative explorations of design’s potential to inspire, create community, and to transform the world we inhabit. Exhibitions are targeted at a design-loving public as well as design professionals to appeal to the diversity of audiences we welcome at BSA Space.
Our Exhibition Committee—museum professionals, BSA members, other organizational leaders, volunteers, and community members—reviews submitted proposals. Major exhibitions generally run for three to four months and are intended to use all the main gallery space on the second floor. Budgets are customized according to the size, scale, and the particular needs of each exhibition. Selected curators will work closely with BSA Space staff to develop exhibition content, format, and programming for pubic audiences, including kids and families. Curators will support BSA staff initiatives to seek additional exhibition funding (i.e. grants and sponsorships).
Our calls are open to individuals, teams, or firms (note: proposals should not showcase the work of a single firm or individual). Applicants must have demonstrated experience curating a museum-quality exhibition. Applicants should not feel limited to architectural themes, as the committee will consider proposals that explore a wide variety of design and urban-related topics. BSA Space also considers traveling exhibitions that have formerly been exhibited at other venues.
Salt Gallery
Frequency of exhibitions: Four to six per year
Programmable space: The equivalent of space for 12 to 24 poster-sized boards or framed works, or 10 to 12 large-format hanging screens

This auxiliary gallery provides flexible, agile space for smaller exhibitions curated by schools, BSA members and committees, our partners, and community groups. These exhibitions are intended to highlight cutting-edge research and talent. Budget for this galleries is limited but BSA Space staff will assist with promotion, programming, and installation on a case-by-case basis.
