2011/2012 Finance Wizards agenda

The following is the agenda we have planned for meetings in 2011-2012.

September 13th – Review of 401(k) plans, investments
Roger Vierra, Senior Vice President, with UBS Institutional Consulting will present a comprehensive view of financial market forecasts and of the trends influencing plan sponsor's responsibilities and risk management. The subject matter to be discussed includes: • Fiduciary-level fee disclosure regulation under ERISA 4018(b)(2) • Plan design trends including the use of automatic features, Roth, and exchange-traded funds • Fiduciary issues relating to the allocation of indirect mutual fund revenue sharing • The addition of a formal Education Policy Statement to your fiduciary process • Among other topics… 

October 11th – Project Tax Credits: Section 179D presentation which involves tax planning
Steven Allen, Principal of PCA Associates and Joe Moriarty, Partner with the accounting firm of King McNamara and Moriarty will illustrate how the Energy Policy Act of 2005 benefits architectural and engineering firms and their clients by designing energy efficient buildings.

November 8th – No meeting – meeting cancelled per BSA for move into new facility & Build Boston.

December 13th – No meeting – meeting cancelled per BSA for move into new facility. Will be replaced with a social gathering – time & date TBD.

January 10th – Tax Review & Key indicators
Chad DaGraca, CPA of DiCicco, Gulman & Company LLP will lead the discussion about the key financial and non-financial indicators A&E firms should be monitoring to protect their bottom line. He will present industry benchmarks that firms can use to gauge their performance. Chad will also provide an overview of tax planning concepts as we head into the new year.

February 14th – Overview of Insurance, what employers need & why
Mike Herlihy of Ames Gough, partner with Ames & Gough, insurance brokers, will lead a discussion on the basics of insurance coverage for businesses as well as addressing the link between designers and consultants and any potential liability.

March 13th – Overview of Health Insurance, Costs, Coverage, Trends in the Market
Jon Clark, partner with Aisling Partners, will present information on the current trends in health care. In efforts to control/cut costs, the health insurance companies are now introducing many new plans, resulting in confusion regarding choosing the most suitable plan for your firm. Our discussion will be focused on an overview of the current health industry and navigating through to make the right choices.

April 10th – Project Manager Tips including open discussion
Margie Munroe, of HMFH Architects, Jennifer Farrell of CBT Architects, Alicja Sabbia of Elkus Manfredi and Judith Salvi of PCA Inc. will lead a discussion of project management mentoring styles and share what we have used at our firms with the intention of everyone getting involved in the conversation and sharing their experiences. 

May 8th – Open book management
Roundtable discussion regarding the pros and cons of open book management. If the information is presented to employees that are not owners, how detailed is the information, who is/is not included in that group and how is the information disseminated. Please come prepared to discuss how your firm handles this issue.

June 12th – Year-end wrap up & discuss next year’s agenda We will not have any meetings in July and August
