Meeting 005 – PechaKucha

BSA Global's fifth meeting was in the PechaKucha format (see notes from Meeting 003), with slide presentations by CRJA, NBBJ, Lemon|Brooke, Acentech, SGH, Payette, and a private practitioner. Discussion covered a range of topics and themes, including:

  • Lost in translation (or time warp): interoffice differences, cross-cultural comparisons and conflicts, and dealing with time zones
  • New technology and how it affects an international practice
  • How to work overseas as a small firm ... the importance of having a brand name
  • Worker housing around the world and ethical dilemmas that architects face
  • Where legacy firms go to die ... overseas?
  • The changing role of US designers in China ... are we still relevant?
  • Legacy projects in the Middle East (e.g., TAC) and historic preservation of Modernist works
  • Travel policy: business v. coach
