Suggested Reading List for Lean Construction and Project Delivery

After his BSA presentation on Lean Construction and IPD, Colin Milberg received requests for a suggested reading list on Lean Construction. The following is Colin's recommedations:

For books:

“Creating a Lean Culture” by David Mann for managers looking to understand in general terms what it takes to develop a Lean Culture.

“Lean Production Simplified” by Pascal Dennis as an excellent and concise explanation of Lean Principles as basic reading

I’ve heard, “Everything I Know About Lean I Learned in First Grade” by  Robert Martichenko is a good basic read as well.

As for Lean Project Management books:

Modern Construction: Lean Project Delivery and Integrated Practices by Lincoln Forbes and Syed Ahmed is a comprehensive overview of Lean Principles and Lean Construction Methods.

If you are just looking to get people excited about what is possible,

Here are some links to some ENR articles espousing the benefits of Lean Project Delivery:

Also, attached is a case study on target costing, now referred to as Target Value Design that should get people excited about using Lean methods in design.

Finally, the LCI website, leanconstruction.org, in their readings link in the side bar menu has a variety of good introductory readings and glossary of terms in the glossary link in the side bar menu. There is also the LCI-NE chapter website, http://www.lcine.org/. There are some interesting videos with discussions on our website, projectrealign.com under the Lean link in the sidebar menu.
