An Update from Chair Peter Kuttner FAIA – March 2017

BSA College of Fellows Update—March 2017

BSA Fellows Annual Dinner
This year’s 34th BSA Annual Fellows Dinner will be held Thursday, April 13, 2017. It is a black-tie dinner for the Fellows, and will be held once again at the St. Botolph Club in Boston’s Back Bay. The BSA also invites the new Fellows from our other AIA New England components if you feel so inclined. It’s a great opportunity to see old friends and meet other Fellows. A formal invitation, with prices, times, and directions will be coming soon.

Fellows Dinner Speaker
Our speaker for the evening will be Dante Ramos, the editor of the “Ideas” section at The Boston Globe, where he also writes a regular opinion column. Dante previously served as deputy editorial page editor, and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2014 for his editorials on how a buttoned-down culture limits Boston’s vitality—a subject that includes Boston’s architecture. He came to the Globe in 2006 from The Times-Picayune in New Orleans.

New AIA Fellows – 2017
This year AIA New England had 14 new Fellows elevated. It’s quite a good number, and particularly great for Vermont. The AIA/NE class of 2017 includes:

Mark R. Johnson Boston Society of Architects/AIA
Thomas D. Kearns Boston Society of Architects/AIA
Philip L. Laird Boston Society of Architects/AIA

New Fellows Breakfast
Once again the BSA will have our third breakfast meeting to welcome the new BSA Fellows shortly before the annual dinner. The breakfast is intended orient the new Fellows to events associated with the BSA, the annual dinner, and the convention, and to inform them about the College of Fellows.

NAC + YAF Annual Meeting
The annual National Associates Committee (NAC) + Young Architects Forum (YAF) meeting will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, March 7 and 8, in Georgetown, just prior to Grassroots. I will be attending for the College of Fellows.

Investiture and Convocation
This year the AIA Convention (now renamed the AIA Conference on Architecture 2017) is being held earlier than usual, from April 27 to 29 in Orlando, Florida.

There will be a New Fellows lunch, at the hotel.

The Investiture will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, April 28, in the Walt Disney Theater at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts (445 S Magnolia Avenue).

We will celebrate all the new Fellows at the Convocation dinner at the Hyatt Regency Orlando the evening of Saturday, April 29.
