Design-In: Mindfulness at Work

As Designers we spend most of our waking hours creating exterior spaces for others but how often do we look inwards to design our own inner space? It's easy to be consumed by daily tasks and lose focus of our inner balance. How can we design-in to be more resilient, creative and joyful?

Spend an evening with us and make time to nurture your inner space and answer this question together.

In this interactive session, Architect turned Mindfulness Consultant Ishita Sharma will introduce simple tools to de-stress in your workday and lead us in a guided meditation.

Why Mindfulness at work? In the age of stress and distraction, we need to be present and centered to truly thrive at work! Mindfulness and Meditation cultivate our most precious resource- our inner space. We cannot control daily stresses and challenges, but we can learn to respond more consciously to them and stay resilient under pressure. Like any other skill, presence, resilience and creativity can be nurtured with training and practice. Join us to find out how!

Founder and Director of Come to Center, Ishita Sharma empowers individuals and organizations to thrive using Mindfulness, Meditation and Facilitation. She blends a decade of professional practice as an architect/artist and a lifetime of spiritual practice to personalize latest research and age-old wisdom to clients' contexts. Her clients include multinationals, startups and businesses in diverse sectors, non-profits, CEOs, scientists, designers and artists.

The event is FREE and open to the public. There will be light refreshments and time for conversation after the session so please RSVP for accurate headcount. You will also have a chance to win a free Mindfulness session for your whole office!

WID Steering Committee Meeting and Appreciation Event

Dear WiD Community,

Thank you all for an amazing 2017 that left us inspired and motivated to ask for more!  Please join us at the WID Steering Committee Meeting and Appreciation Event on Tuesday, January 23 at 6 pm at the BSA.  All are invited.

We will review the many initiatives that we began last year and hear from our sub-committees on their 2017 successes and 2018 goals. We will also be looking for your input and ideas for 2018, as we strive to continue celebrating and empowering women within our design community.

Light food and drinks will be provided, so please RSVP so we have an accurate headcount. We hope to see you there!

Creative Goal Setting for Women

While at some points in our careers, there are clear milestones to achieve such as licensure, or promotions, oftentimes, there’s no clear path ahead and we need to craft our own careers and set career goals. In this talk and min-workshop, Mia Scharphie of women’s career advancement training company, Build Yourself, will walk through how to set goals that are creative and motivating. You’ll learn frameworks and activities that can help you unlock inspiring and career goals that will guide you in your day-to-day, and methods to be ‘creatively strategic’ in optimizing the investment of your time. We’ll also look at common pitfalls that women face in setting goals and harvesting the fruit of their efforts, and how they overcome those pitfalls, and can have more of what they want in their careers. This session will also be especially helpful for women with multiple interests--We’ll dispel the myth that ‘if only you could narrow down’ you’d be successful, and give you a pathway to success that respects being interested in many things.
