Join us for the next seminar in our 2018 series, hosted by Simpson Gumpertz & Heger at Atlantic Wharf in Downtown Boston.

ABOUT THE JULY SEMINAR
Roof decks and green roofs are increasingly popular features on new construction and renovation projects. For older buildings, however, existing roof structural and enclosure systems can pose design limitations on both the scale and scope of new roof decks. By understanding design options early on, project teams can help evaluate architectural, schedule, and cost implications associated with retrofitting the existing structure and building enclosure to accommodate these new features. Through a series of case studies, this workshop will review structural and building enclosure solutions for adding a new roof deck to an existing building. We will focus on several solutions, ranging from design loading, structural system and material options, and life safety requirements to waterproofing, insulation, and decking systems.

After attending this seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify existing roof structural systems that can best support a new roof deck, and understand guidelines for when strengthening is required for various structural systems.
  • Review different roof deck systems and materials that can be applied to an existing roof, based on the existing roof condition.
  • Understand life safety and code requirements associated with roof decks.
  • Learn about roofing, drainage, and building enclosure concerns associated with roof decks on existing buildings.

For those who qualify, 1.0 LU/HSW is available.
