Tour of the Dearborn STEM Early College Academy

Please join the K-12 Committee for a tour of Dearborn STEM Early College Academy. The newest school in the heart of Roxbury is among the first purpose-built STEM schools in the nation. The tour will be given by Jonathan Levi Architects and the Construction Manager Gilbane.

This school is part of a major City of Boston initiative towards an improved future for the residents of Roxbury. This new neighborhood public middle/high school represents a new kind of educational building – a school without corridors which fosters inter-relatedness and transparency. The fabric of the STEM educational environment includes spaces for: small scale learning, collaboration, hybrid learning, project based explorations and community engagement. The building is broken down into three educational communities or ‘cohorts’. Each of which is sited on a different level and is centered on a satellite collaboration space, glass walled science exploratories and an office suite with dean’s office, staff preparation and reception area.

Committee members should carpool or take public transportation to the site as parking is limited. Also, please wear construction site appropriate footwear and clothing-closed toe shoes, pants and shirts with sleeves.

Gilbane has requested that those participants who have them please bring their own hardhats, safety glasses, and vests. Thank you!
