  • COST

    $30 for BSA members ($60 for non-members)

One of the difficult challenges facing building enclosure designers is detailing critical interfaces between various building enclosure assemblies and systems. This presentation by Francesco Spagna PE, senior project manager, and Matthew Carlton AIA, senior staff II – building technlogoy, from Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc., first reviews the basic concept of the four barriers of the building enclosure, and then introduces design objectives for integration of the four barriers at roof/wall, window/wall and other interfaces, and discusses detailing concepts for various applications. Technical and practical limitations of various building materials used are discussed, and the potential consequences of inadequate detailing and construction are illustrated through case studies.
