Please join , for a unique and inspirational opportunity. BSA’s Access Committee and Residential Design Committee have teamed up to present Snow Kreilich Architects and The Residences of St. Paul.
Matthew Kreilich FAIA, and Tyson McElvain AIA, from SKA will present their award winning design for two custom homes nestled into an established, historic neighborhood in St. Paul, Minnesota. They will discuss the many challenges that confronted them while designing two houses: one house to allow for aging in place by a couple and a second home which addressed significant accessibility considerations to allow their son to live independently. Both houses needed to be used by their entire family.
The presentation will include how to successfully navigate the public review process (with both public officials as well as with adjacent homeowners), design considerations to meet the specific needs of each family member in the house designs, as well as how to integrate safe accessible design into residential architecture. Specific interior, exterior, and site design issues will be discussed. As a special treat, the home owners will be available to discuss their experiences of working with SKA in the design process and through the construction of these two very special houses.
Time will also be available for questions and answers. We are very grateful that Snow Kreilich Architects from outside of New England have made themselves available for this very special presentation. We hope that you leave with key insights and a full appreciation of the challenges of integrating full accessibility into a custom home design!
