The pandemic has jumpstarted efforts to reconsider the way city streets are used. While some efforts were already underway, municipalities and communities appear more willing to experiment during this current crisis. Having planned these experiments in the spring, and implemented them in the summer, autumn seems like the appropriate time to take stock of what we have learned.
A panel of experts will discuss the new roles streets have taken on during the pandemic, describe some of the initiatives that cities have undertaken, and evaluate the successes and challenges therein. Moreover, this discussion takes place within a wider context of equitable access to shared spaces, whereby equity speaks to issues of social justice as well as universal design.
