Options for Providing Fire and Life Safety Code Compliance
Guest speaker:
Joshua D. Greene
, Associate Principal, SIMPSON GUMPERTZ & HEGER

This presentation will discuss four typical options for achieving code compliance of which design teams should be aware:
1. Prescriptive Code Compliance
2. Code Equivalency
3. Alternate Means and Methods
4. Performance-based Design

The appropriate application of such options is based on multiple factors, including the parameters of the design, the availability of information supporting the option and the authority having jurisdiction. This presentation will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each option, challenges unique to their use, and tools that can be used to support the option. Several case study examples will be provided to illustrate practical application of the different options.
