Grants 2017
The BSA Foundation is pleased to announce its 2017 grant awards. These grants help underwrite community-based K-12 and other educational programs that focus on elevating public awareness of the planning, design, and construction of our communities. The 2017 recipients and the contact person for each are:
Allston Brighton CDC (ABCDC) (Allston)—$2,000 to support Get in the Zone, an educational campaign to increase Allston Brighton resident participation and leadership in the development planning process in their neighborhood. (Jenna Connolly, 617-787-3874 x223)
Asian Community Development Corporation (ACDC) (Boston)—$1,500 to support a Youth Training Program that engages Asian Youth in community planning and Creative Placemaking that creates public awareness of the improvement of space and design in Chinatown. (Jeena Hah, 617-482-2380 x204)
Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section (Boston)—$1,500 to support New England regional Future City Competition for students grade six through eight. (Reed Brockman, 617-240-7979)
Hawthorne Youth and Community Center (Roxbury)—$1,500 to support Grow It! Cook It! Share It!, a community garden project. (Liz Miranda, 617-427-0613)
Maud Morgan Arts (Cambridge)—$2,000 to support Art and Design in the Built Environment, an architecture and design curriculum that offers accessible, hands-on, youth and family workshops that educate the public on architecture and design principles within the arts and in a local context. North Shore Community Development Coalition (NSCDC) (Salem)—$1,000 to support educational tools for the Punto Urban Art Museum (PUAM). The PUAM brings public art to Salem’s Point neighborhood with a curated arts district with more than 50 murals, immediately adjacent to downtown Salem. (Abbie Allenson, 978-825-4004)
Raw Art Works (Lynn)—$1,000 to support Good to Go (G2G), an arts employment program in which a team of Lynn youth create public art, manage projects, think critically, and communicate and engage with their local community. (Jennifer Pieroni, 781-593-5515)
Southwest Boston Community Development Corporation (SWBCDC) (Hyde Park)—$3,000 to support residents who will design and build a neighborhood park over a series of community build days, to serve as a nexus for the community. (Erica Schwarz, 617-364-7300 x27)
UMASS Amherst (Amherst)—$2,500 to support Design Springfield, a 10-week curriculum at Make-It Springfield that will introduce Springfield middle school and high school students to their city’s legacy of architecture and public space. (Michael Di Pasquale, 413-548-4384)
U.S. Green Building Council Massachusetts Chapter (USGBC MA) (Boston)—$1,000 to support funding that will be used to pilot a program that promotes a high performance (green) building operator track at Madison Park Technical Vocational High School. (Vernette Allen, 617-752-2422)
YouthBuild Boston (Roxbury)—$3,000 to support the Designery, a hands-on architecture and design exploration program for high school teens ages 14-18, who are employed as Intern Designers. (Alex Ho, 617-445-8887 x406)
