Ladder Sky, 2016, Digital photograph, $150

In early summer of 2016, I left my job of over a decade as an educator in order to achieve my goal of travelling around the world. Germany, Japan, and Australia were three of the stops along that journey. During my exploration of photography, I have always been drawn to capturing shapes and places.

This photograph was taken while looking up from below the Umeda Sky Building in Osaka, Japan. The pedestrian bridge is a centerpiece of the observatory on the top floor. The bridge also blends the aesthetic of the building with the sky and clouds above it, creating a futuristic vibe.
