About This Position

Brown University seeks a University Architect who will actively contribute to the Capital Planning process and the Corporation Committee for Facilities & Design, and will work closely with senior leadership and members of the Brown Corporation to provide strategic direction to project planning efforts with a focus on the overall plan for the campus. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). Licensed Architect preferred, or possess broad architecture experience commensurate with the requirements of position. 15 years of progressively responsible management experience. Considerable knowledge of budget practices, employee management, and working with vendor contracts and services. Knowledge of campus planning. Knowledge of applicable Building and Fire Codes. Complex, institutional experience required. Ability to translate general academic and administrative goals into specific design objectives. Detailed understanding of building systems, contracting procedures and building design methodologies. Demonstrated negotiation skills in a management role for high-profile projects involving executive management. A high level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation. Outstanding communicator with the experience, stature, and presence to represent the University to all constituencies, and who is strategic, creative, and able to work collegially with others.
