About This Position

A strategic thinker with excellent management, organization, communication, and planning skills, the Director of Marketing oversees all marketing efforts for the firm. The ideal candidate is creative, energetic, and self-motivated, and will establish and cultivate relationships for the practice and its people throughout the profession and industry. The Director reports to the Principals, works with the Marketing & Communications Manager, as well as the Associates. Additionally, he or she coordinates with ABA staff and consultants, and supervises the Marketing Coordinator.


  • Oversees quality, timeliness and efficacy of all marketing initiatives.
  • Maintains and enhances ABA’s public information, including website, brochures, publications, speaking engagements, and social media.
  • Researches and evaluates marketing leads.
  • Highly knowledgeable about A/E industry and firm’s markets.
  • Efficiently and intelligently manages responses to requests for proposals.
  • Prepares award submissions, press releases, news items and responds to calls for papers.
  • Researches building typologies, potential clients, market trends, and peers.
  • Develops and executes periodic marketing campaigns.
  • Spearheads special projects to advance marketing and communications initiatives.
  • Assists Principals and Associates with interview preparation and technical support.
  • Trains and prepares architectural staff for marketing and business development.
  • Maintains up-to-date ABA project data and graphics.
  • Efficiently maintains ABA’s project Information Management system.
  • Develops and maintains the marketing plan and budget.
  • Analyzes and evaluates ABAs marketing effectiveness, generates strategies for improvement.
  • Develops and presents concise reports and presentations for leadership and the studio.
  • Delegates appropriate responsibilities to staff.


  • Strong background in architectural field.
  • Excellent research capabilities.
  • Skilled with Desktop Publishing (Adobe Creative Suite or other ABA approved) to create marketing graphics and proposals.
  • Excellent writing and graphic skills.
  • Very facile with MS Excel - develops complex fee proposals and manipulates financial data.
  • Prior experience as a Marketing Director in Architecture or similar field.
