PROJECT ARCHITECT/PROJECT MANAGER

DESIGN ASSOCIATES INC, is a Cambridge-based, award-winning architectural design firm specializing in historic, high-end single-family residential and light commerical projects throughout New England, including the Cape and Islands.

Located in Inman Square, our office shares the neighborhood with a treasure trove of varied storefronts, restaurants and live music.

We are looking for a Project Architect/Project Manager with a minimum of 5 years to 9 years of design, architectural and technical experience in wood-frame construction and a complete understanding of how buildings go together. Applicants need to be a team player who can collaborate not only with the Design Associates‘ office staff, but also our clients, consultants, interior designers and contractors.

Responsibilities include;
• Generation of conceptual designs with a firm principal. In early design, we often present hand sketches and drawings. Please submit hand sketches with your portfolio
• Development of design drawings for client approval, including meetings with clients
• Coordination with zoning and building code officials throughout New England for regulatory permitting
• Preparation of Pricing Drawings and Specifications for Bidding
• Coordination of Bidding and Negotiation with Selected Contractor
• Construction Administration, including managing site meetings and all project communications

Qualifications:
• 5-9 years of professional experience, preferably with historic, high-end single family residential projects
• Complete understanding of wood frame construction, including new wood construction technologies
• Extensive experience with the 2015 International Residential Code and the 9th Edition of the MA Building Code for 1 and 2 family construction
• Professional registration preferred but not required
• Proficiency in CAD (Vectorworks preferred), Photoshop, SketchUp and Microsoft Office required.
