Boston City Hall, Under Stair, 2018, Photograph, $125

Boston City Hall is one of those love-hate pieces of architecture. I've always been fascinated by this polarizing architectural style. To some, brutalism's raw exposed concrete and austere geometric lines evoke a cold rational ugliness, but when I look closely I find a certain beauty in its detail. I took these photos of Boston City Hall on a cool sunny spring day. Instead of focusing on the overwhelming presence of the entire building, often photographed from outside, I looked for more intimate frames of the interior that emphasized the use of space.
