BSA/SCUP College and University Roundtable

The common language of play

Establishing a common language among a diverse group of stakeholders is critical in academic projects, which most likely include faculty (often working in a variety of areas such as biology, nanotechnology and physics), administration, and facilities managers. By bringing clients into a playful environment where the tools of the conversation are familiar, a common language is quickly discovered. This environment can facilitate a high degree of communication both within client relationships and project teams, and can surface your client's blind spots, fears and/or hidden agendas, factors that could potentially derail your project, early in the project.

Donna Denio and Dieter Reuther, Lego Serious Play experts, lead a discussion on this client engagement tool.

Learn about the basics of LEGO Serious Play. We'll cover how and why this technique works, some of the theory behind it and what it can be used for. Through some hands-on exercises you can experience yourself how quickly and effectively you can learn about your team members or solve complex problems.
