Committee on the Environment

Step by Step Design of a High Performance Façade

Behind every high performance project is a high performance façade. Designing an envelope that carefully manages solar heat gain and loss while enhancing the occupant experience and providing adequate connections to the outside can get tricky in a Northeast climates. Do all projects need to comply with 40% window-to-wall ratio? Is a low-e coating helpful in the summer, the winter, or both? Is exterior shading always the right answer? Join us in our first session of our “High Performance Toolkit” series, where Jeff Abramson AIA from Payette will walk the audience from the most basic principles in high performance envelope design to examples of some of the highest performance facades in the region.
