Holyoke Center Becomes the Smith Center – Recasting a Transformative Property for the 21st Century

Please join Docomomo New England on the evening of Monday December 11th  for a presentation on the renovation and transformation of Josep Luis Sert’s Holyoke Center – itself a radical reworking of Harvard Square at the time of its construction over 50 years ago – into the Smith Center – a revitalized locus for student life at Harvard.  The work is being performed by Hopkins Architects from London in collaboration with Bruner/Cott and Associates of Cambridge.  We are pleased to welcome Henry Moss AIA, a founding member of Docomomo New England and Principal at Bruner/Cott, who is an expert on the work of Sert and is leading the renovation portions of the work to present this project, which is yet another example of the ways in which many important mid-century buildings are being transformed to accommodate 21st century performance standards and user expectations.  All are welcome.

Please RSVP to by 12:00pm on Monday, December 11 if you plan to attend.
