Family Design Day: Housing Mythical Creatures

Where do unicorns live? Do dragons ever need a place to sleep? What do fairies’ houses look like? Come to BSA Space and answer these pressing questions for yourself. Canstruction 2017 is the inspiration for this day of design. This year the exhibition, made of canned good sculptures, has a fantastical theme:  “Fairy Tales, Folklore, and Mythical Creatures.” After a tour of the exhibition, participants will design their own habitat for a mystical creature using recycled materials.

Canstruction is a charitable competition and exhibition in which teams of architects, designers, engineers, and contractors imagine, create, and display colossal sculptures made of canned goods—all for a good cause. Materials from Canstruction are donated to the Merrimack Valley Food Bank.

If you would like to bring nonperishable food items, they will be donated to Merrimack Valley Food Bank.

This family program is designed for parents and children aged five to 13 years old. A maximum ratio of one adult per three children will be required. Please register both children and adults.

Family Design Day programs encourage children and adults to observe, explore, and design together. In these two-hour hands-on workshops, families are introduced to architecture and design through exhibition tours, walking tours, or slide shows and then complete a hands-on design activity. Architects and design educators lead the activities focused on the built environment of Boston and the world.

BSA Space is one block from South Station. Enter through the BSA Space entrance and go up the green staircase. The program begins promptly at start time.

Your registration includes acceptance of the BSA Space photo release and consent policy. Registrants to this event will be added to the BSA Space mailing list for updates on future public programs and exhibitions. Registrants may unsubscribe at any time. Email addresses will not be shared or sold to third parties.
