Family Design Day: Living with Water

Scientists predict that Boston will experience up to two feet of sea-level rise by 2050 and up to six feet by 2100. How will our downtown neighborhood be affected by the rising waters? Can we think of ways to live happily with water as we see more of it each year? This month, families will have the opportunity to envision a future for a site in the Fort Point neighborhood. We will learn about the challenges we are facing, see ideas generated by architects in the Living with Water competition, go outside to visit the site, and then design and build 3-D models of our solutions.

This family program is a collaboration with the Boston Living with Water competition (learn more about the competition here) and is designed for parents and children aged five to 13 years old. A maximum ratio of one adult per three children will be required. Tickets are $8 per person, children and adults. BSA Space is one block from South Station. Enter through the BSA Space entrance and go up the green staircase. The program begins promptly at start time.

Family Design Day programs encourage children and adults to observe, explore, and design together. In these two-hour hands-on workshops, families are introduced to architecture and design through exhibit tours, walking tours, or slide shows and then complete a hands-on design activity. Architects and design educators lead the activities focused on the built environment of Boston and the world.

BSA Foundation: Inspiring vision

BSA Foundation programs reach Boston’s children and families. Family Design Days inspire children and families through design thinking. This Foundation program allows children to explore and formulate ideas about their communities, architecture, and design as they build bridges, green buildings, and, during a special session called KidsBuild!, an entire city from the ground up. Learn more about BSA Foundation initiatives
