Spaulding Building Tour

Although the conversation regarding sea-level rise and Boston’s current challenge of designing for climate change along its historic coastline remains a contentious subject, the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlestown has become an iconic example of how architects can embrace sustainable design without compromising aesthetics or design excellence.

On Thursday, May 21, join David S. Burson AIA, senior project manager at Partners HealthCare Real Estate and Facilities, Jeffrey Keilman AIA, project architect at Perkins+Will, and Jessica Stebbins, healthcare principal at HDR Architecture, Inc. (previously with Perkins+Will) for a tour of this award-winning hospital and learn about Spaulding’s enhanced resilience to weather events spurred by climate change. From plantings and retaining walls as a protective reef against storms to locating emergency services high in the building, find out what visionary measures were introduced to reduce vulnerability and ensure patient safety.

For those who qualify, 1.0 LU/HSW is available.
