The Penobscot Narrows Bridge, featuring a 420 ft glass-enclosed observation tower, was designed as an emergency replacement for the Waldo–Hancock Bridge. From conception to completion, just 42 months elapsed! Then for six years they stood side-by-side as plans to remove the old bridge took longer.
