Biography
A native of Tucson Arizona and distinguished alumna of the University of Arizona, Jane came to the Boston area shortly after her studies. While working as an intern architect, she met Andrea Leers, and after several years with a large architecture and planning firm, they founded Leers Weinzapfel Associates together.

International Advocacy
Jane Weinzapfel is co-founder and Principal at Leers Weinzapfel Associates. Jane is a nationally recognized leader in building for campus infrastructure, urban design, education and civic institutions. Jane’s impact is reflected in her leadership, advocacy, impact on community, and impact on the built environment.
BSA Leadership
Jane was a board member and past president of the Boston Society of Architects. She is an Overseer and former Trustee of The Boston Architectural College and is a former Trustee and Board Chair of Boston by Foot. Jane has served on several Mayor’s Advisory Committees and on the Massachusetts Executive Office of Community Development Designer Selection Board.
Sustainable Resilience
Jane has expertise in award-winning urban infrastructure design, including the UPENN Gateway Complex Chiller Plant; the OSU East Regional Chilled Water Plant; and the MBTA Operational Control Center. Jane also is praised for her civic and campus facilities design, including the nationally award-wining MIT School of Architecture and Planning, the UCONN Oak and Laurel Halls and the Paul S. Russell, MD Museum of Medical History and Innovation at MGH. Jane’s work and achievements have been recognized with the BSA Award of Honor.
Women's Advocacy
Jane advocates for women in design, as a kick-starter, advisor, mentor and supporter of equity, diversity and inclusion. Additionally, Jane has made impact teaching at MIT’s School of Architecture and Planning and at the University of Arizona College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. She lectures widely and has been design critic and speaker at several universities and conferences in the U.S. and abroad.
