Healthcare Facilities: White Plains Hospital Pediatric Center

White Plains Hospital was founded in 1893 and is a 292-bed not-for-profit community hospital in Westchester County, about 45 minutes from New York City. The hospital is a regional leader in Obstetrics and Neonatology which includes a 15 bed NICU. The hospital also has the busiest Emergency Department in Westchester County. As with many older facilities, pediatric services are dispersed in the facility and consist of sub-units within adult care zones. This is not conducive to family centered care and creates challenges for Pediatric providers to deliver integrated services. White Plains Hospital set out to develop an innovative Pediatric Care Center which brings together Inpatient and Emergency services in a dedicated unit. Featuring 12 Inpatient beds, 10 ED Treatment rooms, and a dedicated X-ray room, the unit is equipped to serve pediatric patients in a holistic manner that is welcoming to families and flexible enough to accommodate the unpredictable nature of this service line. This presentation will provide and overview of the unit’s development and explore some of the issues faced in bringing these services together.
