Part 1: Touchless Solutions for Healthy Environments
With the increased focus on limiting the spread of germs, many building owners are considering retrofitting existing doorways into touchless openings. Changes may include installing automatic operators, updating actuators and access control readers, or adding new door pulls or lever modifications. While making these upgrades, it’s critical to ensure that egress, fire protection, and accessibility are not overlooked.
Although the current model codes do not include specific requirements for touchless hardware applications, there are many sections of the codes and standards that impact the selection and installation of these products. Allegion’s Wayne Jenkins will cover code requirements related to automatic operators and contactless access control, as well as accessibility considerations for new hands-free door pull designs.
Part 2: CODE FAQ’s for Hardware and 2018 Update
Building codes, especially those related to life safety issues, are an important part of an architect’s design of any structure. Allegion expert, Jeff Batick, will go over common code questions related to doors and hardware: delayed egress, access controlled egress doors, multifamily and mixed use. He’ll also go over NFPA 80 inspection criteria and discuss the 2018 IBC code changes where they differ from IBC 2015 and Mass Building Code.

As a complement to the presentation our speaker will provide a PDF to all attendees who request it.
