Aging in Boston - and the Design Community involvement

2016 will bring a combination of learning and participating for the DFA members. Our collaboration with the city of Boston Age Friendly City initiative continues and moves to the second phase where project related presentations will inform and deepen the understanding of the process and our involvement.

This year we will be planning a design charter dressing some of the issues identified during the first year listening sessions. January 2016 will be our first meeting following the Boston DFA national exposure at the LeadingAge 2015 annual conference in November. The original video "Celebrate the Voices" that was created by Jon Sachs and produced by the DFA will be presented followed by a presentation by Professor Jan Mutchler form the UMASS Boston Department of Gerontology.

Jan Mutchler is the Director of the Center for Social and Demographic Research on Aging within the Gerontology Institute, at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Trained as a sociologist and demographer, she has taught and conducted research on aging processes and older populations for more than 30 years. Her Center, established 3 years ago, serves the research and evaluation needs of organizations that serve older adults in the community, and of municipalities as they plan for a growing number of older residents. Professor Mutchler will talk about the Age Friendly framework and report on the first year of Boston's initiative.
