Tunney Lee AIA, 1931-2020
Tunney Lee AIA was the former head of the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT, and the founding head of architecture at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He served as Chief of Planning and Design at the Boston Redevelopment Authority and was also Deputy Commissioner of the Massachusetts Division of Capital Planning and Operations.
At age 88, Tunney Lee AIA, passed away following complications from cancer treatment. Lee was an MIT professor emeritus, an architect, and an urban planner.
Lee, along with his students and alumni members, developed the 2015 BSA exhibition Density Atlas: Measuring Urban Density. The exhibition illustrated the context of the density debate, the implications for planning and design, the different measurements for urban density, and presented case studies from Boston and abroad.
