Building Blocks: Exploring Obsolescence in Architecture

  • COST

$10 ($5, BSA Members and Friends of BSA Space

Are architectural styles expendable? In an era of hotly contested preservation debates, how much credence do we give the idea that the new necessarily outperforms the old?

On May 5, join Daniel M. Abramson of Tufts University as he investigates the idea that architecture often seems to be in search of something newer, grander, or more efficient. Based in part on his new book, Obsolescence: An Architectural History, Abramson will explore how this belief profoundly affects architectural design, while discussing recent examples of preservation and sustainability—from post-Modernism to green design. Design professionals and architectural novices alike won't want to miss this discussion of how designers navigate and manage the changes that challenge our built environment.

Copies of Abramson’s book will be available for purchase and signing.

This event is a program of the BSA Foundation.
