K-12 Educational Design: Cost-Effective Design Strategies

Construction Costs for K12 projects in the Commonwealth have been rising precipitously over recent years and even prior to the pandemic or supply-chain issues. These rising costs place additional strains on communities and their willingness to support school projects despite their educational and facility needs. The MSBA has been actionable in seeking answers, exploring means to mitigate or cap spending and tracking the data for consideration in the DSP process. As a design community that has witnessed the ebb and flow of cost increases, we have all developed strategies to reduce costs both proactively and reactively. This session will feature case-studies and examples from some of our peers, along with an open exchange on strategies or trends that impact cost.
