Well-designed landscapes play a vital role in the lives of seniors, their families, and caregivers by providing opportunities for respite and community connection, encouraging independence and activity, and ensuring safe navigation through outdoor environments. We will present the tools that landscape architects have long employed for intergenerational design and take a deeper dive into design considerations that help meet the changing cognitive and physical abilities of the aging community. In a region with four seasons, presenters will highlight landscape opportunities to integrate these concepts towards better intentionally designed senior communities and equitable civic spaces.
