Light is the major synchronizer of the human circadian system and suppresses melatonin. People spend much of their time in buildings, and the building façade and the lighting within is an important health factor. The Well Building Standard has implemented metrics to assess the circadian stimulus provided by both daylight and electric light. The session will discuss the innovative approaches to simulation and interpreting data to assess circadian lighting potential during the design process. The presentation will provide examples of simulations used to study and assess circadian potential to address health in programming and analysis.
Objectives include:
The talk addresses health within programming and analysis. According to the EPA, the average American spends approximately 90% of their time indoors. The panel of WELL and LEED experts will walk designers through integrating appropriate facade, daylight and lighting practices into the design process to improve the occupants' experience, satisfaction and wellness within a building. 100% of the talk will address this topic.
