Aerogel's Use in Building Envelope Components

The BEC presents a roundable/discussion on Aerogel's use in building envelope components to reduce thermal transmission. The awareness of, and requirements for control of thermal transmission and condensation potential have grown significantly in the past decade. Today’s projects require new solutions to address their high performance requirements. This presentation will provide an overview of Cabot’s Aerogel as well as examples of manufacturers that have incorporated Aerogel into their building solutions to meet today’s most demanding project requirements.

We will discuss the following topics:

  • The material properties and manufacturing of Aerogel
  • Aerogel in glazing systems: how its properties (i.e., low conductivity, translucency, and water resistance) make it an ideal insualtor - Advanced Glazings
  • Aerogel in polycarbonate envelope systems
  • Aerolon coatings & tapes
  • Project case studies and future improvements

For those who qualify, 1.5 LUs are available.
