Student Success Redefined: New Learning Models on Campus

Aaron Hoover, a faculty member from Olin College of Engineering, and Richard Jones AIA, an architect with a focus on learning environments, will be joined by Laura Twohig, Steelcase’s Regional Education Leader to share education research in higher education. They will discuss approaches to rethinking how we prepare students for a more creative economy and an evolving future, while supporting diverse backgrounds, skills, hopes and dreams. Join us to explore how a connected system of active learning spaces, as essential components of an overall campus, can contribute to a high-impact student success strategy.

Aaron Hoover is an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Olin College of Engineering where he teaches introductory and advanced courses in design and mechatronics and does research on bio-inspired robotics. He's passionate about teaching and has developed an interest in how the physical learning environment can directly impact the student experience. He has led design/build experiences for students to reimagine and transform their learning environments to better suit Olin's unique curriculum.

Richard Jones AIA is the director of Jones Architecture and has worked in design and planning in higher education for over two decades. Following 15 years of practice with various firms in Boston, Rick founded Jones Architecture in the spring of 2011. Since that time it has grown to be a 12 person service-oriented practice. With a particular focus on learning environments and academic libraries, Rick believes in supporting clients in the broadest sense as they seek to shape their environment. Rick presents regularly in at regional and national gatherings and conferences.
