In the 1980's I lived in a tiny apartment off Fifth Street in Cambridge. In the early mornings I walked down to Lechmere Station, the smells of fresh candy from the nearby factories strange companions in that otherwise deserted space. The train was already there, waiting to begin its slow, creaky roller coaster ride into Boston.
