Malden Center for Arts & Culture
The City of Malden boasts a thriving arts community, bolstered by a diverse population, exhibit spaces, and community groups. As the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the permanent closure of
cultural spaces and arts venues throughout the Greater Boston area,
the City's Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development is seeking ways to ensure this aspect of Malden's culture survives, supplementing its previous involvement in establishing public installations like the Malden ARTLine.
The City is currently working with the Commonwealth to acquire the old Malden District Courthouse and convert it into the Malden Center for Arts & Culture. This project seeks to reverse the trend the pandemic has caused, providing a new, affordable space that celebrates the diverse cultures of Malden and its artist community.
To complete the project, the City is seeking designers to help with a feasibility study and concept designs for building renovations. The ultimate goal of the project is for the Malden Center for Arts & Culture to provide a much-needed creative space for the Malden community and the region as a whole.

About the Malden Redevelopment Authority
Our mission is to build strong and vibrant neighborhoods, create employment opportunities for local residents, create housing opportunities for all Malden residents and improve the quality of life for those who live here. Starting on July 1, the MRA will be incorporated into the City as the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development. This change will eliminate operational redundancies to help us better serve the Malden community.
