Emily Grandstaff-Rice FAIA Elected 2023 AIA President-Elect
Congratulations to Emily Grandstaff-Rice FAIA on being elected 2023 AIA President-Elect!
Emily was 2014 BSA President and is an active member of the BSA. Emily has been a passionate advocate for women in the profession and we look forward to seeing her influence at a national level.
“As a past president of the BSA, Emily has been such an exceptional leader in advancing equity and justice within the organization and firmly believes in the power of design to make a better world. We are so proud of all that she has accomplished and look forward to her upcoming presidency,” says Gregory Minott AIA, 2021 BSA/AIA President.
In a recent interview with the BSA, Emily spoke to what it is like to be a woman in the profession:
“I haven’t always had a sense of belonging within this profession. While I’ve seen some shifts in the culture over the past 25 years, I’m still too often the only woman in the room. When I began my architecture career, 11% of AIA licensed architects were women. Now, that number is 22%. This trend is good, but the pace is abysmal. We cannot assume that progress will happen on its own, and we need to fight the fatigue that comes with pushing for change over an extended period of time.”
Congratulations Emily, the BSA looks forward to being a part of that progress with your current and upcoming leadership.
We extend our congratulations to the following candidates on being elected to serve on the AIA National Board of Directors.
2022-2024 At-large Director
Kevin M. Holland FAIA of AIA Los Angeles/AIA California
