Community Resilience: The Role of Design
In an era of federal inaction and confusion, community and civil society organizations are in unique position of strength in terms of understanding how best to address the needs of their constituents. Designers can be proactive in this critical emerging area of practice, playing an increasingly pivotal role in helping communities:
- Navigate complex needs assessments to identify critical vulnerabilities and strengths, especially as we face a changing climate.
- Leverage existing partnerships and develop new connections to funding and technical assistance.
- Democratize planning, strengthen local capacity, and put local ingenuity into action.
The panel will feature an exciting mix from academia, design and planning practice, and community leadership:
- Daniel P. Aldrich, Professor of Political Science, Public Policy and Urban Affairs; Director, Masters Program in Security and Resilience, Northeastern University
- Dumas LaFontant, Executive Director, Lower Roxbury Coalition
- Rashmi Ramaswamy, Director, SHED Studio
Dave Hampton - Co-chair, BSA CORE and Principal, re:ground LLC - will moderate.
Practice your participatory design enquiry skills with a simple collaborative exercise, while our panelists give real-world insight.
