For May’s WiD Wednesday, visit the newly transformed Johnson Building at the Boston Public Library.

Located on one of the most pedestrian-friendly and vibrant retail streets in Boston, this civic monument provides the city with a world-class public library. Originally built as two wings in 1895 and 1972, this 156,000 square foot renovation of public floors transforms the inward facing 1972 addition into an inviting, light-filled public space that welcomes all and extends the library into the newly defined public plaza on Boylston Street. The renovation collects the most active programming at the library’s front door and makes a seamless connection to the city of Boston. The transformation unifies the two wings into a cohesive whole for the first time.

Sindu Meier AIA and Elizabeth Bondaryk AIA of William Rawn Associates will provide a tour of the landmarked 1972 Phillip Johnson addition.
