The WELL Building Standard - Creating Healthy Buildings

This month we welcome Jim Newman, of Linnean Solutions, who will present several different approaches and tools that design teams can use to integrate health considerations into their design practice. Mr. Newman will build a vision of design factors that contribute to better health, from low toxicity materials to appropriate ventilation and air filtration and active design, and then show how these key issues are integrated in the WELL building standard and the Living Building Challenge, as well as other standards. This presentation will cover the important principles behind new health-focused tools and help attendees navigate the most relevant approach for your projects.

Jim Newman, LEED AP, O+M; EcoDistrict AP, is the founder and principal at Linnean Solutions, a mission-driven firm that helps organizations and communities reach health, resilience, and sustainability goals. Jim’s twenty years of experience includes working with researchers on improving health outcomes for families living near freeways; the development of health focused sustainability frameworks, and sustainability consulting for assisted living and health facilities. Jim regularly leads community planning workshops, and trains others in becoming effective facilitators. He is a member of the RELi/USGBC Steering Committee, where he has worked to bring a social equity and health perspectives to the development of the new certification standard for resilient buildings.

Our meetings are free and open to all interested. Please RSVP so we can plan appropriately for refreshments.
