Creating a Future of Age Friendly Cities in Massachusetts

Realizing the need to prepare for rapidly changing demographics in the Commonwealth, in January 2018, Governor Baker announced the enrollment of Massachusetts in the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities, becoming the second state in the nation to do so. (New York joined a month earlier) This bold step taken by Governor Baker solidifies his commitment to stand up to the challenges the Commonwealth faces in meeting the future needs of all its residents. At that time, the Commonwealth already had a significant head start in its age-friendly efforts. Boston has already joined the network in 2014. And at the start of 2018, more than a dozen communities had signed up as members.
Antron Watson, AARP Massachusetts Age-Friendly Director will provide an overview of the current status of AF- MA, present challenges being experienced in different communities, and propose ways in which DFA can contribute to making the Commonwealth Age-Friendly.
