The Fabric of Boston

FM Architecture The Fabric of Boston

As with a quilt, transit was born out of necessity, and evolved organically in response to the city's changing needs. Each station, port, terminal, pedestrian bridge, and tunnel, was fabricated with its own story to tell, much like a square on a quilt. Commuters, too, have their own story, contributing to the character of the Boston transit network.

The patchwork quilt that is Boston Transit is historic, beautiful, practical, and colorful, supports the lives of many and is supported by many. Most importantly, it stiches together the fabric of our communities.
